Life in Winter is an independent folk-rock band (with alternative rock and pop influences) from Montr\u00e9al. The project was started in the winter of 2007 by bassist\/singer Sage Reynolds as a vehicle for his songwriting. The music is influenced by folk & rock from the 60’s & 70’s right through to what is happening in the indie scene today, as well as western music and bluegrass.<\/p>\n

The first three singles of the new Northern Window EP<\/strong>\u00a0have been released leading up to the 2023 EP launch. Recored in 2016, this music showcases the complicity that the band had after several years of playing shows and doing recording sessions together:<\/p>\n

Pale Sonata<\/strong> (released February 24, 2023)
\nThe third single, this song features atmospheric synth\/guitar textures, an unusual main groove, 60s R&B influenced choruses, background vocal pads, and lead guitar work by Eric Couture-Telmosse.<\/p>\n

Still Norway\u00a0<\/strong>(released December 23, 2022)
\nThis is the second single and is a favourite of singer\/songwriter\/bandleader, Sage Reynolds. The song features several grooves\/vibes, some of which are inspired by late-sixties\/early-seventies Folk-Rock, and there is an epic guitar solo by Rich White.<\/p>\n

\nThe first single, this song has a driving beat inspired by an 80s influence of Sage’s and its lyrics explore an urban character’s winter lifestyle.<\/p>\n

Life in Winter’s self-titled debut album (Life in Winter<\/strong>) was released on Oct. 29, 2012.<\/p>\n

The album has 9 songs and is just over 40 minutes long. The songs were written between 2007 and 2011 and address such subject matters as: artistic motivation, fame, rural\/urban duality, domestic friction, heartbreak, dreams, and the search for love. The mostly guitar & drums oriented music is subtle & quiet at some points and driving & full at others. The abundant use of vocal harmonies on the album adds to the richness of it’s sonic texture. The lead vocals are sensitive at some points and urgent at others, but always accurately display the depth of timbre present in Sage’s voice.<\/p>\n

We also have 4 demo<\/strong> recordings to date. The first demo was recorded in May 2008 by Vid Cousins at Monkey Puzzle Sound Studio (www.monkeypuzzle.ca<\/a>), the second demo was recorded in November 2008 by Stephen Lilly at McGill Studio A, and the third was recorded in November 2009 at McGill Studio A by Brian Losch & Chris Johns. We also did a recording session with George Massenburg (www.massenburg.com<\/a>) at McGill Studio A, focusing on the song Betty & Joyce (mixed by Stephen Lilly) and our latest demo was recorded by Benoit Morier at Olaf Gundel’s studio in 2013.<\/p>\n

The creation projects that lead up to both the Life in Winter album and the Northern Window EP were supported by the\u00a0Conseil des arts et des lettres du Qu\u00e9bec. Sage’s family helped fund the production of both recordings.<\/p>\n
